An article on Job Interview Tips and How To Answer Interview Question About Hobbies.

Do what you love…Love what you do…

Do you know the way you respond to this interview question related to defining your hobbies can decide your candidature. If you want to know how then read on…
One should try to follow one’s heart when it comes to pursuing a hobby.
Hobbies are one of those things that we follow because we get happiness out of it!Happiness is what we all look for and majority of our life we spend searching for it…Having a hobby is always good as it gives you a strong reason to pursue something in life and without much of barriers.

Pursuing a hobby is expression of your happiness and shows you zeal to a great extent. A person who has an area of interest, follows it simply to explore, learn and enjoy himself. Here the question arises- Can it be a reflection of what you stand for?

To me, certainly it is one of the parameters of judging an individual and to know how he/she looks at a particular thing with dedication and passion. Therefore, to show your determination, passion, creativity and such other traits, one should try to think and talk more about one’s hobby/ies and that too with great pride…

Hobbies are activities like: reading, playing, listening to music, writing poems, photographying nature, singing, fishing and so on that people choose to pursue depending on their likings…

At times, we have seen due to passion and strong urge to do well in life a lot a people have taken up their hobbies as profession and they succeeded as they simply loved doing it.

During an interview, there is a probability that you may be asked about your hobbies as a part of the Interview Question: Introduce yourself or separately.

The hiring managers or interviewers tend to check you passion, determination, perseverance and the intensity with which you have been pursuing your hobby. And these are strong indicators of what you really stand for. Hence, take this as a huge opportunity to tell people what you love doing the most and why do you love it so much.

The ability of an individual to answer to these two questions can be linked  with the  chnaces of getting the job on offer.

Wondering how?

It is critical to link  your area of interest or hobby with the job in hand

Once you have answered both the questions( mentioned earlier regarding hobby in the previous lines) impress upon the fact – how positives gained from your hobby can come good to the job in hand.If you can link it well then you will be able to make a strong statement during the interview and your chances of getting the job is higher.

Let me help you answer thsi question better. Follow this interview tip and see you getting the dream job in your next job interview.
As an example, let me assume your hobby is photography, then how would you respresent your hobby best in the interview question about hobbies.

Well, my favorite hobby is photography and I love capturing nature in my camera. I’m very passionate about traveling to places to explore nature. This teaches me a lot of lessons like: bringing new techniques to capture nature which makes me think out of the box, being more disciplined in terms of my preparation and approach towards caprturing narture, enables me to follow some processes while photograpying, makes me agile as I need to constantly move around to get the best shot, and most importantly tests my level of patience as well. In all, it’s not only about having a creative eye, but to practise in end number of ways with sincerity to get the desired results…

All these habits would define your true character and the way you look at life and explore the same, other things being constant…And this could become your cutting edge  at any interview…So avoid only making statement like: ” I love listening to music, of reading books and so on…Rather, speak why do you follow it and what do you learn from it that can be linked with some of the traits that are requisite to perform the job you have applied for.

When you speak with passion and pride, it reflects and that is the secrect behind succeeding at any interview.

  1. Delighted that HR Crest has written about the Hobbies section while preparing for an interview. It is an area that is often neglected in Resumes and which can help the interviewer to get a better understanding of the candidate.

Interestingly, I had written a piece along the same lines while focusing on the Resume in my blog which I would like to share at
